  • We have taken several measures to prioritize the safety of our members:

    • Community Rules are strictly enforced and Give Us The Floor has zero tolerance for disrespect, racism, homophobia, or threats.

    • If something does not feel right, if someone is in danger, or if a participant does not respect the rules, each participant is asked to submit an anonymous report to the GUTF team using the in-app reporting feature to flag content for review.

    • Sharing any personal information is strictly forbidden, and one-on-one contact is not possible.

In addition to our app, we moderate comments on all of our social media profiles, with zero tolerance for disrespect, racism, homophobia, or threats.

  • The app has two main areas of support: Supportive Group Chats and Community-Wide Channels.

Supportive group chats are safe, adult-free spaces where young folks within a two-year age range of each other (ages 13 to 15; 15 to 17; 18 to 20; 20 to 22; and 22 to 24) share their day-to-day difficulties, insight, shame, and pride in a small group of about 10-12 people. One or two trained Youth Facilitators in each group help keep it safe and foster conversation. Supportive group chats are a place where you might receive help one day and help others another day. Young people in these groups have a strong sense of not feeling alone. Participants are from all over the US. Joining a Supportive Group Chat is not immediate — once a participant has submitted a request to join a group, our staff will thoughtfully assign them to a group.

Alternatively, the Community-Wide Channels are available immediately upon sign-up within the app, with no waiting period to join one of the more than 25 different topic discussions. Channels offer more specific topics of focus, from Body Image and College Applications, to Anxiety and Depression, to Pets and Memes.

The Community Rules are strictly enforced.

The Give Us The Floor app can be downloaded to your phone from the Apple App Store or Google Play. This app is safe and will protect your personal information.

  • Download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play and complete the steps to create an anonymous account. Upon signup, you will be asked to share a phone number and zip code to verify that each member is a real human and for generalized statistics for funding purposes, but we will not share your personal information with third parties at any time.

  • Once you’ve completed signup, select the “+” sign next to “Groups” to check out the different Supportive Group Chat topics and choose the focus that fits your interests the most. It may take a few days to be placed in a group, but in the meantime, you will have immediate access to community-wide Channels focused on a wide range of topics, so you can start getting support and connecting with other participants in the Channel discussions right away!

  • Supportive Group Chats are smaller groups with a maximum of 20 members, led and moderated by trained Youth Facilitators. Members can request to join a group and Channels are topic-focused, community-wide discussion spaces that every participant has access to within your age range (ages 13-17 and 18 to 24).

  • You must be between ages 13 and 24 to be eligible to join.

You must have a valid US cell number.

You must provide a US zip code.

  • None! There is no commitment in joining. You participate whenever you want and you can leave whenever you want. However, If you decide to join a small supportive group chat, the only way it works is if the participants in the group remain active. For that reason, active participation in small group chats is required in order to remain a member in these groups. Members who are inactive for more than two months will be removed to make space for other participants who wish to join.

  • No. There are two different communities within the app for people ages 13-17 and those 18-24.

  • We know the importance of being able to stay connected with the people you’ve already built connections and friendships with. While you will automatically be transferred to the 18-24 community channels, you will still remain within your same small group chat.

  • If you’d like to leave a small supportive group chat, just let the team know by DMing GUTF within the app.

Additionally, if you feel like the group you were placed in is not the best fit for you and you’d like to try a different one, we can help you with that! Just let the team know and they will move you to a new group.

If you decide you want to join again, you are welcome to DM the team and they will add you back to your group or another one.

  • Our team works hard to onboard each user as fast as possible to make sure you’re placed in the best available group for your needs. Sometimes, we have more signups than trained facilitators, so the process can take a little longer than preferred. The wait is very rarely longer than 10 days. If you're concerned something went wrong, please email us at groups@giveusthefloor.org or DM us in the app and we’ll get back to you quickly. Please do not hesitate to reach out!

  • We need a phone number to ensure that the user is a real person and to be able to send the code to a user's phone to log in. We also use the phone number to assist if a member is in crisis or danger and help keep them safe. We do not sell our members' personal information.

We also try our best to group participants with others from different locations. We have heard a lot from our community that they love to hear perspectives from different places/backgrounds. We also use the zip code to help if a member is in crisis or danger and help keep them safe. We do not sell our members' personal information.

  • Messages will automatically disappear in Support Group Chats after 7 days.

  • Read our Community Rules here.
