How I Deal With Mental Health stuff as a Queer & Trans Teen
Hey, I’m Jaise, and today we’re gonna talk about mental health and some little things I do and you can do to help yourself feel better :)
Don’t Go Dark
Okay, first off, reach out to your friends, especially Queer ones! I know being the first one to start the conversation can be scary at times, but you can even just send a meme or a TikTok that they’d like. Staying connected with our people is super important right now, so remember to check in with the homies.
Do Something
Something equally important is finding healthy ways to express your emotion. It doesn’t even have to be a negative emotion, sometimes it’s just freeing to take a dance break in the middle of a study sesh. Personally, I like to paint my feelings or write about them in a journal. There’s tons of ways you can do it, and I promise it will pay off. Keeping things locked up inside is never a good idea in the long run.
Break Things Up
Aaand lastly, take things one step at a time. The world can seem crazy overwhelming right now, especially if you’re a student on top of everything, like a lot of us are. Try splitting up your to-do list over a couple days and setting reasonable goals for yourself. I like to write my week out on a piece of paper because I have zero sense of time. Also, remember to take breaks during homework time, and bring snacks! Honestly, whatever the scenario, snacks are a good idea.
Being a queer person who is… alive right now is A LOT. But if you take my advice, it will cure your depression. Okay, it probably won’t do that, but it will definitely help. Seriously though, I love you, and you got this.
